The average Shopify store has 14 apps installed. Most of those apps are either unused, duplicate, or adding page load weight without corresponding revenue impact. The right D2C app stack has 8 to 12 apps, each solving a specific problem, each demonstrably contributing to revenue. Here is the optimal stack for 2026.

The Core Revenue Stack (Non-Negotiable)

Klaviyo: email and SMS marketing. Non-negotiable. If you are using Shopify Email instead of Klaviyo, you are leaving significant email revenue on the table. Klaviyo's segmentation, automation, and analytics are not replicable with simpler tools. Cost: $20 per month at small list size, scales with list. Worth it from order one.

Reviews app (Okendo for $150K plus ARR, Judge.me below): social proof on product pages is one of the highest-impact CVR improvements available. A product with 50 reviews versus zero reviews converts at 2x the rate. Review apps automate collection and display. Non-negotiable above 50 orders per month.

Gorgias: customer support ticketing that integrates Shopify order data into every support conversation. Your support team sees order history, subscription status, and previous tickets without leaving the support interface. Reduces handle time and improves resolution quality. $10 per month starting plan. Worth it from 100 support tickets per month.

The Conversion Stack

Triple Whale or Northbeam: blended attribution dashboard that aggregates Meta, Google, Klaviyo, and Shopify data into a unified view. Your MER (Marketing Efficiency Ratio) and true CAC by channel become visible. Cost: $100 to $300 per month. Worth it at $50K plus monthly revenue when you are making budget decisions across multiple channels.

Rebuy or Frequently Bought Together: product recommendations that increase AOV. Post-purchase upsell, "frequently bought together" bundles on product pages, and cart upsells. ROI is typically measurable within 30 days. Average AOV lift: 8 to 15 percent for stores with broad SKU catalogs.

Hotjar or Microsoft Clarity (free): heatmaps and session recordings that show exactly where visitors engage and where they drop off. Clarity is completely free and produces data quality equivalent to paid heatmap tools for most D2C use cases. Install on day one. Review recordings weekly for the first month.

The Operations Stack

Inventory Planner or Fabrikator: inventory forecasting based on sales velocity and lead times. Prevents both stockouts (the most expensive operational failure) and overstock (ties up working capital). $99 to $199 per month. Worth it at 200 plus monthly orders when stockouts start becoming a real risk.

Returnly or Loop Returns: return management portal. Automates return requests, tracks return status, and offers store credit exchanges as an alternative to full refunds. Store credit exchanges recover 40 to 60 percent of return revenue that would otherwise leave the business.

Apps to Remove

Remove any app that has not been logged into in 60 days. Remove any app that duplicates functionality already covered by another (two review apps, two pop-up tools). Remove any app that the developer has not updated in 12 plus months. Remove free apps that have no support channel, because when they break they will break silently and you will only discover it when conversion rate drops. Audit your apps quarterly. Every app you remove improves page speed. Page speed improves conversion rate.
